• Red Hot Chili Peppers, new album 'Return of the Dream Canteen' in October

As fans expected, John Frusciante's return to the Red Hot Chili Peppers could only lead to new music.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers made the surprise announcement during a live performance at Denver's Empower Field, the first date of their world stadium tour.

The band said, "We went in search of ourselves as the band that we've always been in a way. Just for fun, we improvised and learned several old songs. In a short time we embarked on the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful chemical intrusion that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that flow of sound and vision, we kept mining.

" Anthony Kiedis also explained that they had no reason to stop creating, that it all felt like a dream and that magic saw to it that more songs sprouted than they thought. That leaves two double albums released back-to-back: "The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first (...) Return of the Dream Canteen is everything we are and always dreamed of being. It is full. Made with the blood of our hearts," noted the vocalist.
