After 10 years, Rolling Stone magazine has updated its list of the best songs in history with more than 200 new songs in the ranking, including for the first time a Spanish-language song in the top fifty.
To make this new list, the prestigious magazine has summoned artists, musicians, producers, critics and journalists where each one sent a list of songs that include genres such as hip-hop, modern country, indie rock, reggae and R&B, in addition to the genres that were previously taken into account. The magazine tabulated a total of 4 thousand songs and thus obtained the new ranking. Of the 500 songs we can highlight that 4 songs in Spanish were taken into account: "Gasolina" (50), "Amor Prohibido" (405), "La vida es un carnaval" (439) and "Oye como va" (479)”. In addition, the magazine includes Ponta de Lança Africano (Umbabarauma), by legendary Brazilian musician Jorge Ben in 351st place.
As for the top spots, we see the feminist anthem “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. Songón that was composed by Otis Redding in 1965. But 1967 Aretha made her own version ón and now it is our reference in the song.
Among the top spots we also find Stevie Wonder with “Superstition”, Marvin Gaye with “Whats Going On”. Names such as The Beatles and Bob Dylan, Radiohead and Billie Ellish are also mentioned within the tally.
